Carol talks about being proactive with our healthcare
One of the many benefits of building strength is if you require surgery, you can reduce your hospital stay and shorten your recovery time. It is important to include both prehab and rehab as part of your surgery journey. At WTS, all of our classes include movement to build strength. Some benefits of staying strong include:
Faster Recovery: Strength training can help patients recover faster after surgery.
Shorter Hospital Stays: Prehab can help patients spend less time in the hospital.
Reduced Complications: Patients who undergo prehab are less likely to experience complications after surgery.
Improved Quality of Life: Prehab can help patients improve their quality of life after surgery.
Bone Density: Strength training can help build bone density, which can reduce the risk of fractures.
Muscle Mass: Strength training can help increase muscle mass, which can help prevent osteoarthritis and reduce stress on joints.
Carol from our classes can attest to this! She recently had a surgery that included time with a physical therapist both before and after surgery. Now, surgery is still surgery and there is often significant discomfort during recovery. However, the physical therapist was happy with her prehab program because she was able to easily do the tasks required of her. When she was asked to do 10 sit to stands, she could do 20. Afterwards she was back in class and building strength as soon as she received the release from her doctor. Carol has done an excellent job of improving her strength and with the help of her doctor, physical therapist and WTS, she is getting back to doing the activities she enjoys. One thing I will add is that Carol is proactive about her overall health and is quite resilient which adds to her ability to bounce back.
